Kestřany
Kestřany is renowned for its historic ensemble, featuring two well-preserved medieval fortresses and a castle.
The Lower Fortress, originally a water fortress protected by the marshes of the Otava River, is distinguished by its sturdy stone tower. The Baroque castle is currently undergoing gradual reconstruction. Both the Lower Fortress and the castle are currently closed to the public.
The Upper Fortress, which remains open year-round, is also undergoing revitalization. Surrounding the fortresses, visitors can enjoy newly planted vineyards and a peaceful park, ideal for relaxation.
On the outskirts of the village, the Červený Ovčín golf course offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside alongside a stylish restaurant.
Every first Saturday in August, Kestřany comes alive with a traditional gold panning competition that attracts visitors of all ages.
