Due to measures of the Government of the Czech Republic against the coronavirus epidemic, the town of Písek has closed school, cultural and sports facilities since 11 March 2020. The Písek Tourist Information Center in Sladovna has been closed to the public since 14 March, you can contact them by phone on working days between 10 and 13 hrs. Also the visits of the tower of the church tower Písek are no more in operation.
The town of Písek has decided to cancel its large-scale events: Dragon Boat Race on May 15-16, cultural programme of the sand sculptures festival planned for May 22-24 and Town Festival scheduled for June 12-13. The organizers are considering organizing smaller-scale events in the autumn term, depending, among other things, on the current situation and possibilities for implementation.
On the contrary, the sand sculptures will be built. If there are no other circumstances preventing the creation of giant sand sculptures, in the end of May 2020, the works on the theme of “777 years of the town of Písek” will decorate the Otava River near the Stone Bridge. A traditional outdoor exhibition will also be opened in the adjacent Čechova Street, this time presenting the town of Písek and its inhabitants in (historical) photography. On the occasion of the town's anniversary, a representative publication with 777 photographs by today's authors is being created and a short video spot is being prepared presenting both the significant moments of the town's history and its present.
