Sudoměř
Sudoměř is a tranquil natural area known for its scenic ponds and as the site of a pivotal Hussite battle fought in 1420. Although a relatively small skirmish, the Battle of Sudoměř holds great historical significance. The Hussite forces, led by the brilliant commander Jan Žižka, achieved a remarkable victory against a much larger crusader army thanks to his ingenious tactics and leadership.
At this historic location stands a striking 16-meter-high granite statue of Jan Žižka, one of the greatest Czech military leaders, created in 1925 by sculptor Emanuel Kodet.
Every March, a lively battle reenactment draws numerous visitors eager to experience this important moment in Czech history.
The site features wooden statues representing Hussite warriors, symbolizing the 400 courageous fighters who took part in the battle.
Visitors can also enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding ponds, forests, and South Bohemian countryside, along with peaceful walks through the historically rich landscape.
