Municipal power station

Originally a mill and waterworks, the building was converted into a hydroelectric power station in 1888, when electrical equipment designed by František Křižík was installed. This made Písek the first municipality in Bohemia with permanent public lighting. In 1901, two Francis turbines were added—both of which were in operation till last year. After a refurbishment, a museum of lighting was opened here in 1997.

Currently, plans are underway for the reconstruction of the Municipal Power Station. However, the building remains accessible through tours organized by the Prácheň Museum on scheduled dates: in June 2025 on weekends from 10 a.m., 12 a.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., in July and August daily. Entrance fee 20 CZK, reservation is not necessary.
